Nightbooks, by J. A. White<\/h4>\n

The Thickety<\/em><\/a> first came out in 2014, followed (like clockwork) by The Whispering Trees<\/em><\/a> in 2015, Well of Witches<\/em><\/a> in 2016, and The Last Spell<\/em><\/a> in 2017 (which was, in fact, the last spell, as it concluded the series.)\u00a0 So why is it on sale now, in 2018?<\/p>\n

Because\u00a0Nightbooks<\/em><\/a>\u00a0came out four days ago, on July 24. A book that has nothing to do with the Thickety series<\/a>. What?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Okay, it might not be part of the series, but it is<\/em> by the same author. The publishing team wants you to know about Nightbooks<\/em>. They want you to be excited about Nightbooks<\/em>. It just came out. They’re proud of it. (And rightfully so! Look at that cover! Read the blurb! We want it! We want it right now!!!)<\/p>\n

Ahem.<\/p>\n

As we were saying, they’re proud of it. It’s new!!! But in our 21st-century world of instant gratification, 8-hour news cycles, and “micro-moment marketing” (don’t get us started), a book published four years ago is ancient history, buried so deep under a blogger’s TBR* pile that it might as well wait for an archaeological excavation to return to the light of day.<\/p>\n

Obviously, that’s not how we roll. We recommend any book we like–most of them published recently, some of them published before we were born. Still, those kinds of recommendations are rare, and publishers have a hard time rekindling awareness of older titles.<\/p>\n

That’s where sales come in. Even fantastic<\/em> books go on sale (*cough* like-our-book-The-Wendy<\/a>-that’s-still-free-for-one-more-day<\/em> *cough*), when publishers want to cycle attention back around to a series, or when they want to draw attention to an author who has a different book out that’s brand new.<\/p>\n

Which is exactly how we found both The Thickety<\/em> (the book on sale) and Nightbooks<\/em>\u00a0(the new one), which looks fantastic and just came out last week. And here we are, talking about them both<\/em>. Huh. Guess that sale worked pretty well.<\/p>\n
