For me, the best books always start with great characters, and Six of Crows<\/i> features some of my favorites. Their back stories are spaced out, presented only when we need them, never breaking the action but lending the entire read an extra layer of depth. (I\u2019m not usually a fan of flashbacks, but these were done so seamlessly that I actually started to like<\/i> them!)<\/span><\/p>\nAs magnetic as the characters are, the universe is just as enticing. Magic and pistols together? Count me in. Plus, the magic users aren\u2019t all-powerful. The limitations make the magic seem all the more realistic, which makes the plot edge-of-your-seat exciting.<\/span><\/p>\nNot to mention those twists and turns. I\u2019m usually good at seeing what\u2019s coming, but Leigh Bardugo is a master of setting up the reader\u2019s expectations and then breaking them, always in a believable way, so we\u2019re never quite sure what\u2019s going to happen.<\/span><\/p>\nThis ragtag team of \u201cheroes\u201d with major trust issues, who care about each other without admitting it even to themselves, is one I\u2019ll be following to the end.<\/span><\/p>\n
\nWe bought this one. Yeah, sometimes we still do that. It was worth every penny.<\/em><\/p>\n
