Eve and LemonFresh are “bestests” in a high-tech, post-apocalyptic world. They live with Eve’s grandpa in a trash wasteland, surrounded by the discarded dregs of what was once civilization, getting by on grandpa’s mad tech skills and Eve’s bot fights in the War Dome. Until those bot fights almost get her killed. When a giant robot corners her, she throws out one terrified hand and screams.

And the bot falls down dead, its circuits fried from the inside.

Profoundly Satisfying Entertainment

I grew up reading science fiction. Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, L. Ron Hubbard, Orson Scott Card, Michael Crichton… In fact, I read every science fiction book I could find in our small-town library. Literally every single one until they ran out. Sadly, life went on…

I grew up, finished college, got a job, read other things. It was only recently that I returned to the genre with this novel: Seed, by Michael Edelson.

A Thought-provoking, Dystopian World

The List is a fascinating dystopian tale of a post-apocalyptic society in which language is limited to only 500 words. And falling. The Crimson Throne by Christi Stallard

Surprising, Entertaining, Screen-worthy

If you love monsters and fantasy creatures, you’ll love Christi Stallard’s The Crimson Throne. Vampires, dragons, sirens, pixies, werewolves, ghouls… they all live side by side in a world that no longer belongs to humankind, which is a real problem for Sadie Carlisle, the teen heroine who has spent her entire life surrounded by the walls of Section 18. When the city gets raided, Sadie is forced to fight for her very survival.

If that sounds at all cliché, trust me, it isn’t. The world Christi Stallard has created is masterful, from its invented history to the setup of day-to-day life. Movie companies and TV networks, take note: the reimagining of so many mythical creatures into one seamless, dystopian nightmare makes this universe ripe for acquisition.
