They sure are. But nothing brightens our week like a free read! We searched through a hell of books tonight (pun intended), looking for just the right thing to cheer up your Monday, but the deals weren’t calling to us. Not until we found this one. With a fun premise, a kick-ass heroine, and a smooth, conversational writing style, it’s a great introduction to a series that has plenty more to offer if you like this one.

Welcome back to Pern! New book in just 5 weeks! (Aka I beg for books and have strange interactions at the post office.)

Remember that author—Anne McCaffrey? The one who made me (Erin) decide to become an author? The one I couldn’t talk to without sobbing?

(You might know her better as the Anne McCaffrey who’s in the Science Fiction Hall of Fame—the SFFWA Grand Master, winner of both the Hugo and Nebula Awards, winner of the Robert A. Heinlein award for lifetime achievement as a fantasy and science fiction author… Right, that Anne McCaffrey. But I’m sure the bit about what she means to me personally is on a card in the SF Hall of Fame somewhere.)

Okay, so her daughter, Gigi McCaffrey, is releasing a new Pern book in October—Dragon’s Code—and I’m so excited I can’t stand it. (Imagine a thirty-minute pause here while I tried and failed to find a gif showing how profoundly excited I am. I’m not a gif connoisseur, apparently. I did, however, spell ‘connoisseur’ correctly on the first go, which surprised me and made me feel a little better about the whole gif thing.)

A. G. Riddle’s Departure! Last but not least in our 6-deal A. G. Riddle weekend extravaganza!

This one sounds like Lost meets… some kind of far-reaching conspiracy theory book, but we can only think of Dan Brown right now and we’ve already used him as a comparison. But, hey, if the shoe fits. On the other hand, it might be a little bit Lost meets Richard Feynman. (Nobel Prize winning physicist? We’ll get to him some other time.)

Our point is that the science involved here is more time travel / physics than genetics / biology, but that only excites us even more. Any sci-fi thriller author who branches out into different fields captures our attention for sure, and at only $1.99 right now, this one is the best deal yet.
