Our free promotion of The Wendy was an epic success! No, wait. A legendary success! We’re talking Indiana Jones pulling out his gun and shooting the guy with the sword kind of success. Or injured Karate Kid Daniel beating Cobra Kai Johnny’s ass with a Hail Mary crane kick kind of success. Maybe even “Use the Force, Luke” destroying the Deathstar kind of success.

Well, it feels that amazing to us. Our goal for the promotion was to giveaway 5,000 copies, with a stretch goal of 10,000. Instead, we gave away forty thousand books! We’re completely blown away. What do FBI agents, vampires, witches, glass eyes, alpacas, and a wicked sense of humor all have in common? You guessed it: Hoofin’ It, by RJ Blain. I read the first chapter and then bought it immediately for only $0.99. I laughed at the spitting alpaca. I laughed at the conversation Shane has with his mother. Heck, I laughed at the dialog with the 911 operator, but there’s probably something wrong with me.

The Thickety first came out in 2014, followed (like clockwork) by The Whispering Trees in 2015, Well of Witches in 2016, and The Last Spell in 2017 (which was, in fact, the last spell, as it concluded the series.)  So why is it on sale now, in 2018?

Snow Like Ashes, by Sara Raasch

It’s true. Sara Raasch started writing Snow Like Ashes when she was twelve. Want proof? We hunted down a video of the author holding up the first hand-written draft and took a screenshot. She reads a page from it in the video. We’re convinced. (Isn’t she adorable, btw?)

The decade she took to build this world shows in its magic. And in its politics. We found one reviewer who wrote down all eight territories, along with their rulers and their “conduits” (i.e. special magic items), just to keep them straight. To make things even more complicated, four of the conduits can only be wielded by men, and the other four by women.

(Wait. Is that determined by biological sex or by gender identification? Dunno. We haven’t read it yet. We just now bought it on sale. That’s how we find these deals. We’re actually shopping for ourselves and then telling you about it. Probably because we don’t have enough friends.)
